What are the job responsibilities of an Associate Medical Coder at Optum?
- Analyzes patient records of both inpatient/outpatient and enters diagnostic and procedural codes regularly according to departmental timelines.
- Maintain the patient’s health information confidentiality by ensuring compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Strictly adhere to the company’s rules and regulations.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with the departmental staff and hospital staff.
- Dedicated to completing the assigned work under the specified time limit.
- Participate in coding sessions, meetings, and education conferences to maintain coding skills and accuracy.
- Evaluate and try to resolve edits under the specified time frame to maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
- Accountable for ensuring that all medical records are coded accurately.
What are the essential skills you should have for this job role?
- Proficiency in CPT and ICD coding systems.
- Candidates must be certified coders through AAPC or AHIMA.
- Certified with CPC / COC / CIC / CCA / CCS acceptable.
- Strong knowledge of Medical Terminology, Human Anatomy & Physiology.
